How quickly has this year gone? I find it quite amazing looking back to see how much I have done over the last year and how I have set a ball in motion for more change to come. I am a big fan of change – luckily, because as a wedding photographer, I think it is essential to always be looking at new ways to progress creatively and from a business perspective. That’s what I love about my job the most – the fact that I will continue to learn forever.
So before I look forward to writing down my hopes and dreams of what I can achieve in 2013, let me reflect a little on what a cool year 2012 has been! I love a bit of reminiscing, I do!
On new years eve last year, I got engaged whilst on a mini break in New York! It was the most amazing, romantic, exciting experience – I can’t explain how perfect it was.
We quickly set our date and venue for the wedding… To be held in Provence in the south of France in May 2013. This venue is very close to my fiance’s heart as it belongs to my lovely sister-in-law-to-be and has been the destination for many a fun holiday.
This year, the wedding season started for me in April with a flurry of beautiful spring celebrations. A few of you may know, I used to live over in Kent – the garden of England and so I get many bookings from couples that live over there. This has involved a fair amount of traveling around for me – mainly the south of the country, meeting with some amazing couples. I feel that more than ever, people are choosing to get married their own way and I have loved to be a part of so many gorgeous unique weddings this year.
Each year, I like to book myself on to some sort of workshop that will help me develop my business. This year in July, I was very excited to be going to Lisa Devlin’s Photography Farm. For the full gushing post click here. From all that I learnt on the farm, what followed was an exciting plan to rebrand my business and a network of fantastic photographers who offer me support, chat, advice and inspiration on a daily basis. More than I dreamt I would get out of a three day course!
In August, I went on Kat William’s (aka The Rock ‘n Roll Bride) School of Rock blogging workshop. I decided that my potential clients would probably appreciate me adding a blog to my website so that they will be able to see my newest and most current work. Kat’s workshop helped me to learn the best way to do this. Thank you Kat!
In the process of planning our wedding, I came across many inspiring blogs which not only has given me lots of help with ideas for our wedding, they inspired my photography work and the way I want to run my business too. My favourite blogs of this year have been Rock n’ Roll Bride, Whimsical Wonderland Weddings and Love Sussex Weddings. I set myself the task to get my work featured on one of these blogs… And later on this year I hit the jackpot!
And so, in November when the wedding season started to slow down for me… I set about the task of rebranding my business. I used to be called ‘Intrigue Photography’ and have felt for several years that this brand didn’t represent me well enough. I decided that I would take the opportunity to use my new marital name to be in this rebrand as I think it’s memorable and has an element of humour to it! I commissioned the lovely Melissa Love to design my new look with my new name and it was such a fun experience. She managed to come up with a look that is so ‘me’ and I am so pleased with how it looks.
And now, I look forward to 2013 and what new things it will bring… I think my new years resolutions will require a blog post in their own right… watch this space
