This has been a week of reflection for me – I have been reminded how important photographs are for helping to preserve memories of good times and loved ones. It’s very easy as a professional photographer to spend so much time documenting other people’s lives, that you don’t pick up your camera in your spare time. I’m glad I am doing this 365 project, I’m sure I will appreciate looking back on these photos in years to come. :) So this is my 5th week, I hope you enjoy it:
Tuesday 29th January 2013 – I went over to see Louise O’Mahony at her studio in Falmer on Tuesday. She is a very talented fashion designer (have a look at beautiful 1950s inspired dresses – Oh My Honey) Louise is currently making my wedding dress for me and so this was the day of my first fitting – exciting! After the fitting, I asked her if she would mind if I took a few pictures of her. It was foggy, rainy and windy outside so not ideal conditions. I took this photo just after a particularly strong gust and she said it felt like she had been slapped in the face! Sorry Louise!
Wednesday 30th January 2013 – This is another self portrait and another chance to play with double exposures. The light on Wednesday was beautiful and really made me feel like spring is on its way. :) I took this photo on the roof terrace outside my studio, combining the first shot of me with a photo of light shining through a stencil (stencil made and kindly lent to me by Lee at Freakshow)
Thursday 31st January 2013 – This is my lovely friend Fiona who has for the last eight years, lived in Minnesota with her husband Tucker – another lovely friend of mine. Fiona recently landed a really good job over here in Brighton and so has moved over – with Tucker soon to follow! Fiona came to stay with us for a few days – it has been so nice to catch up with her. This photo was taken after a very busy day for both of us. It was nice to unwind at The Cow pub on Seven Dials in Brighton. I love neon lights… I really want to get one!
Friday 1st February 2013 – This is Col, a friend who I bumped into on my travels and kindly agreed to pose for a photo or two on Friday. Col has got very striking blue eyes which I hoped to make a feature of – I also like the intensity of his expression in this shot.
Saturday 2nd February 2013 – I often work on Saturdays, especially during the summer and so I like to make the most of weekends when I haven’t got anything planned. On this day I went out with my good friend Emily (aka Bear) We had lunch and wandered around the lanes. Nice. :)
Sunday 3rd February 2013 – I went to Belle’s Bridal Boot Fair on Sunday – A really good turnout of people there. Lots of brides hoping to find wedding inspiration. This is Mark Vis, a pianist with a mobile pub piano who entertained us with some tunes.
Monday 4th February 2013 – This is Gracie, my friend’s daughter. It is her 6th birthday on Valentine’s day. Isn’t she a cutie? Whenever I photograph children, I am always amazed at how perfect their skin is. No wonder why Gracie hasn’t yet developed any fear of being photographed. I love her innocence and how she didn’t seem self conscious at all when I took these photos – It’s a shame we can’t all be like that!
That’s about it for this week. Thank you for looking. x
