PHOTOGRAPHY FARM – CORNWALL

Wedding Photography Brighton - Alexa Clarke Kent

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending another Photography Farm workshop… This time it was part of the Elements tour in an idyllic setting of Fowey Hall in Cornwall.

The workshop was made up of two days: The first day was run by Adam Bronkhorst (the grand flash master) who taught us very clever new skills in lighting – using speedlights on and off camera to create different looks and effects. I had been wanting to go on one of Adams courses for a long time ever since I first heard about them. Using flash photography in a way that creates natural looking light during the day or adding atmosphere and drama to evening photographs and winter weddings is such an important string to my bow. I am so grateful to Adam for everything that he taught me. It’s quite geeky but I love gadgets so having the time to play with my flash guns without the pressure of having a paying client was great.

Day two started with a talk from Melissa Love – the designer who is responsible for my new logo and visual identity. She taught us lots of interesting things about how to approach a new brand and also some very valuable lessons in search engine optimisation. Then we had a workshop run by Lisa Devlin – an amazing photographer who I can now say has become a good friend. Those who follow my 365 blog posts will know that I occasionally second shoot for Lisa at weddings and her learnt so much from her (plus we have so much fun too :) In Fowey, Lisa ran a session on how to take awesome couple shots. SO MUCH FUN. We had a real couple posing for us – the lovely Sophie and Gareth of Crown and Glory. We spent the afternoon in the sunshine – taking photos of them around the glorious grounds of Fowey Hall. Lisa showed us her approach to posing couples – finding the light and knowing how to put them at ease. All the photographers on the course took it in turns to try new ways of photographing the couple and we all learnt so much! Sophie wore a gorgeous dress by Oh My Honey and the paper pom poms and flowers were provided by Pearl and Earl

Going on training courses is important to my development as a photographer. I plan to attend different courses for the rest of my life as I feel that there is always new things to learn. Any photographers reading this should seriously consider going on one of the Photography Farm training courses. The original Photography Farm three day course is held at a farm in Sussex. I first attended this in July of last year and my business has grown from strength to strength since then. The Elements tour which this Cornwall workshop is part of is now travelling all over the country so follow them on Facebook to see if they are coming to a town near you.

Here are some of the photos I took and some ‘behind the scenes’ photos to show you how much fun we all had. :)
