A couple of weeks ago, I entered the Professional Photographer of the Year awards in a couple of different categories. I did this and thought nothing more of it. Then last week, I got an email to say that I had been shortlisted in the 50mm category (the 50mm lens is one that I use all the time – it hardly ever comes off my camera) It was for a portrait that I took during this years 365 project. This week, the winners were announced and to my surprise I found out that I have been awarded third place in that category. Hundreds of people entered so I am chuffed to bits to have been chosen. Anyway, enough blowing my own trumpet, back to this week’s photos…
Tuesday 5th November 2013 – I went for my usual wander through the Laines on Tuesday to find someone to photograph. This is Emily who works at Revamp Fancy Dress.
Wednesday 6th November 2013 – On Wednesday last week, I did a shoot for a friend who has been doing some life modelling and wanted some portfolio shots. Although I have photographed nudes before, I’m not too experienced in photographing male nudes so this was a bit new!
Thursday 7th November 2013 – I can’t get used to it getting dark so early. As light was running out, I took a quick dash along Brighton Pier in the hope to spot someone interesting. I met Florence Miller who was sat with a friend, watching the world go by. I took a few photos of her with some fairground lights behind.
Friday 8th November 2013 – This is Steve, also known as Dirty Harry. He owns the clothes shop in Brighton by the same name. He also has a unit on the same building as my studio so I knew who he was when I spotted him in town. He told me that he named his shop that because ‘he takes no prisoners’ so I asked him to give me his best take-no-prisoners face!
Saturday 9th November 2013 – I went to Swanley on Saturday to do a little baby shoot for an old school friend. I photographed her first baby a few years ago so she asked me back to take some more of her newest addition – Benjamin. I took loads of very sweet smiley photos of him and I can’t wait to edit them all. I chose this one as my photo of the day because I love his expression.
Sunday 10th November 2013 – A visit to my old home town of Canterbury. A couple of friends have got a new puppy called Hershey. We went for a lovely walk at Seasalter as the sun was going down. How Hershey didn’t freeze, I will never understand! Isn’t she gorgeous?
Monday 11th November 2013 – A really rainy miserable day in Brighton. I went out for a drive to look for someone to photograph and found myself at the Jag Art Gallery on the seafront in Brighton. Daylight was running out so I was very grateful to meet Peter Spence an artist who exhibits his work there.
That’s it for this week. :) This has been my 45th week of this years 365 photo a day project. Thanks for looking.
