This week has flown by, it only feels like yesterday that I was sat writing last weeks 365 blog post. I don’t have a huge amount to say about this week generally, other than it’s been fun! On days when I’m not shooting a wedding or portrait session, I seem to be getting into a nice routine of working on edits in the morning before taking a short break in the early afternoon to go out with my camera for play time! I always used to think that I didn’t have enough time to do personal work… I am hoping that I can keep this up… So this is my week 9:
Tuesday 26th February 2013 – As I am getting married in a couple months time, I realised I should probably start thinking about what I’m going to do with my hair on the day. Annoyingly, it’s in that awkward in between length at the moment so it limits my choices. Recently, I have been watching the TV series ‘Mad Men’ boxset and have become quite obsessed with the amazing backcombed dos that the lead women sport. On this day, I had a go at giving myself ‘big’ hair without huge success (it stayed big for around half an hour before it flopped) I took a few self portraits to show the kind of thing I want to go for… Time to contact a few stylists who can do it better!
Wednesday 27th February 2013 – Another attempt to play with double exposures. I bumped into my lovely friend Chloe whilst out and about in the afternoon. We went for a coffee and had a catch up before heading to buy some flowers from a very stroppy florist. I took the first frame of Chloe sat by the window with her coffee and then the second of some flowers in the florists.
Thursday 28th February 2013 – On this day, Ali Hannon commissioned me to take some headshots of her to use as publicity for her stand up comedy work. We had some fun wandering around Brighton taking a variety of shots – it’s amazing how many expressions this girl can pull. Watch this space… if you haven’t already, you are very likely to see her on the comedy circuit soon. Really very amusing, she is.
Friday 1st March 2013 – This is Esme, I met her when I popped into the epic and awesome Revamp fancy dress shop in Brighton. I went in for inspiration for an 80s birthday party I’m attending next month and spotted an opportunity for a fun portrait. It constantly surprises me how willing strangers can be to help me. Thank you Esme.
Saturday 2nd March 2013 – I went to see an exhibition at the library and met one of the artists in the process of finishing to hang the work. This is the artist known as Zee Zee Twenty Two and he kindly talked to me about his work and invited me to the opening of the show. I recommend going and having a look: The ART Exhibition: 13 Women Exhibition – International Women’s Day is being celebrated this year at Brighton Jubilee Library with the 2nd annual 13 Women exhibition. This year also featuring 13 men artists. 01 – 15 March.
Sunday 3rd March 2013 – A photo of Sarah, through a misted window. I like the backlighting and how it almost looks like she is underwater.
Monday 4th March 2013 – It’s to be expected that every now and then, I will have a day when I don’t have anyone to photograph. On this day, my studio buddy Jo very kindly said that I could take a photo of a model that she had been shooting in the studio. This is the very beautiful Dominique Noiret who I am told is also a very talented musician. Her hair and makeup was done by Claire Beever of Modern Vintage Glamour. I had all of two minutes to take a few shots on our grubby roof terrace, but the light was wonderful. Thank you to Dominique, Claire and Jo for making today’s portrait easy! :)
So that has been my week in a nutshell! I have lots of ideas for the coming week so please do look again this time next week to see my week 10.
