Not a great start to this week in photos… First day was a bit of a rubbish effort but I tried to make up for it for the rest of the days. I need to remind myself that this will happen occasionally and I will inevitably like some photos more than others. As a photographer, it is very easy to compare yourself to others. I know we all do it and occasionally it can get you down when you see other people posting awesome photos on their blogs and on social media. One of the reasons why I started this 365 project was to force myself to take more photos on a daily basis as a means to improve my posing techniques and to develop my style. When I feel down about my work, I remind myself that no matter what everyone else is doing, I know that my professional work is always carried out to the best of my ability. The fact that I care so much can only be a good thing. And as long as I care enough to push myself, I know I will always develop.
Tuesday 28th May 2013 – The great British summer! It was raining so hard, I couldn’t even face getting out of my car for a photo so pulled over on my way to work to take a self portrait with rain drops on the car window. There’s something nice about hearing rain drumming down on your car roof when you are warm and dry inside.
Wednesday 29th May 2013 – I headed up to Fulham to meet with Katie and Alastair on Wednesday. I am photographing their wedding in a couple of months time so we met up to discuss their plans and take a few photos. The rain held off for just long enough to have a bit of a photo session. They are getting married at the Star and Garter right beside the Thames and we had a wander around the area to work out where we might take photos on the day. I can’t wait for their wedding – I really enjoyed getting to know them a bit better and hearing about their plans.
Thursday 30th May 2013 – I went out in the evening for a bite to eat with some friends. Before meeting up with them I passed Jubilee square where I met these lovely ladies – Holly, Beth and Daisy. They run the Cockatoo – the best mobile bar I have ever seen! It is a converted 1965 Morris Ambulance and has a revolving bird cage on top where the hosts ‘wild bird women’ perform acrobatic style performance art. I am going to recommend them to anyone who wants a mobile bar at their wedding/event – so cool! I had an amazing gin cocktail, took a few photos and had a nice chat with them before heading on my merry way.
Friday 31st May 2013 – I finished work in the studio for the day on Friday and went out for a walk with my camera in the early evening before heading home. There are so many people around in Brighton at the moment with the festival still going on- it should be easier to find people to photograph but for some reason I found it more daunting approaching strangers than normal. This guy was handing out flyers for his comedy show and let me take a photo of him. He is Kiki Lovechild and he was promoting his show for the Brighton Fringe.
Saturday 1st June 2013 – I met up with a lovely couple in the morning on Saturday to discuss their wedding plans then had an afternoon off work enjoying the sunshine. We went for a bike ride with a couple of friends – Aimee and Owen. We headed over to the Black Rabbit pub in Arundel. A wonderful riverside pint in the sunshine and I took a couple of photos of Owen. He doesn’t normally like having his photo taken so it was very kind of him to climb a tree over hanging the river and let me take a few shots. The late afternoon light was great. What a handsome man. :)
Sunday 2nd June 2013 – Another sunny day. Makes me so happy. :) I went out for an afternoon stroll on the beach in Hove… Days like these make me feel so lucky to live here. I didn’t really spot anyone to stop and ask for a photo but popped over to see a friend, Graham on the way home and had a nice glass of wine with him and his wife Debbie. I love their front door and so chose to take a couple of photos of Graham in front of it. There were a few more smiley ones of him but I chose this shot as I like the intense look on his face. Graham is an IT consultant and runs his own business… A very useful to know!
Monday 3rd June 2013 – The start of another week and a lot of editing to do in the studio. On my way to work, I stopped off for a walk around town. I asked this man for a photo… he seemed happy for me to take a photo and to put it on this blog but didn’t want to give his name. Fair enough!
That’s it for this week. This has been my 22nd week of this years 365 photo a day project. Thanks for looking.
